A hot fix crystal to inspire your DIY abilities
Before we look at how to apply crystals, I would like to explain a few terms that are important to understand in the world of "bling" vocabulary.
Firstly, let's look at the word "total stones". This simply means a pack of approximately 144 crystals of the same size and colour, often sold at wholesale prices. In recent years, the word "stone" has come to mean covering it with crystals.
But the most important point you can learn is the difference between 'Hot Fix' and 'Flat Back'. Hot Fix crystals are probably the most commonly used hot fix rhinestones, as they are the easiest to apply. These round crystals have a hardened layer of glue on the back which melts and bonds to the material when you apply it with a bedazzler kit with rhinestones. The great thing about Hot Fix stones is that you can arrange all the crystals exactly where you want them on the dress and then just place the Hotfix Rhinestones applicator on top of each one until they are all attached to the dress.
Flat Back crystals look the same as Hot Fix stones, but they have no glue at all on the back, so you must use normal craft glue. There are some advantages to using Flat Backs and they are usually a few cents cheaper per stone than the Hot Fix variety. Armed with these terms, let's see how to apply Hot Fix crystals!

But before you start, make sure you know when to place the crystals in your project:
After your suit has been fully assembled, finished and pressed.
At least 24 hours before you can wear the suit!
So first, let's look at the different heads of the bedazzler kit with rhinestones. The package that comes with your tool should include six heads, some of which are bevelled (rounded) and some of which are flat. The instructions on the package will most likely tell you to heat the tool with the bevelled head, place the stone colour side down on the head and then turn the stone over and hope it lands in the correct position on your clothing.
Whichever stone you use, I always recommend that you use a flat head. This way you can align the crystals exactly where you want them on the garment and then 'iron' them using your hot fix tool for the most precise and effortless application. You may find that the flat head is not as large as the bevelled head, but as long as the flathead is large enough to cover the top of the stone's coloured surface, it will work well.
With the head screwed into place, you're ready to start heating the hot repair tool! You will need to screw the appropriate head into the hotfix tool before inserting it. Then, plug it in and let it heat up for at least ten minutes to get it nice and hot. The tweezers make this task incredibly easy!
While you wait, now is a good time to start Placing the stone in the right place The possibilities of Swarovski crystal designs are truly endless and there are no rules as to how to arrange them! One thing I would like to remind you of is that the more symmetrical your design is, the less likely it is to look 'perfect'. We do our best, but occasionally a stone will accidentally hit an inappropriate spot and ruin the effect. Try arranging them in several different ways before deciding which you like best. The layout possibilities are endless!
Now that your tool is heated, all you have to do is press the heated tool against the stone for 15 seconds! (Place only the heated head on the stone. You don't want to touch the tool to the fabric itself as it may melt some of the synthetic material.)
The Hotfix Rhinestones applicator was just the right match for my project! Once all the stones are secured, allow them to cool and secure to the garment for at least twenty-four hours. After that, you're good to go! As far as washing instructions are concerned, most genuine Hot Fix crystals can be washed in the same way as clothes are normally washed. (Prom dresses, for example, will still need to be taken to the dry cleaners and t-shirts will still need to go through the washer and dryer.)
