Keeping your cigars at the perfect temperature

The main purpose of a humidor is to promote a perfect smoking experience while creating the conditions for long-term ageing. At XIFEI, we know that creating a fine cigar case takes time and precision. Just like preparing a new humidor to hold your cigars, it takes time, patience and a little know-how. You are trying to recreate the tropical conditions in which most cigars are made, but you can't rush it. Putting your cigars into a dry humidor can ruin a good smoke and your investment.

The interiors of our humidors are made from untreated Spanish cedar, the wood of choice for humidifying and ageing premium cigars. This wood needs to be humidified or seasoned before the humidor is ready to hold your precious cigars.

Take a new sponge, make sure it is unscented and soap-free, and moisten it with plenty of distilled water (do not use tap water or bottled water). Tap or bottled water can cause mould or bacteria, which live in a damp environment. Wipe all exposed wood, including any trays and dividers, and inner lids. Avoid using paper towels or abrasive cloths; these can actually leave paper stains on the wood. After wiping the wood, you can go both ways or both ways. You can spray the sponge with more distilled water and put it in a cigar box on a plastic bag to avoid direct contact with the wood, or I often put a tray of distilled water inside and put the lid on. You can do both, or one or the other.

Secure the humidifier to the lid and wet sponge, close the humidor and leave it for at least 7 days. Refresh the humidifying unit daily (it may not need it) and check the sponge or tray. If it is quite dry, add more distilled water. If it's very wet, leave it alone. I actually prefer to do this for 14 days.

After 7-14 days the Spanish cedar walls, dividers and roof of the humidor have absorbed all the required moisture and you can now safely store your cigars in your new humidor.

The cigar box is equipped with a humidifier to keep the cigars from drying out with a perfect spread of relative humidity in the range of 65% to 75%. The humidification system eliminates humidity fluctuations and improves the cigars over time, allowing you to better control the moisture in your humidor. It also comes with a 100ml bottle of humidor solution to adjust the humidor humidity to 70%, a mixture of propylene glycol and distilled water helps to adjust the humidor to 70% relative humidity.

An adjustable hygrometer is built into the top of the humidor, making it easy to observe the mellow humidity of the cigars in the humidor. This humidor is worth buying!
